before the same people slag me off for that, as well.
Preferred Tools (Thanks to the very clever people who made them)
DVD Ripper - CladDVD, CladMec1.0
Some people use Smartripper, I find some discs crash it. CladMec does the trick for me.
DVD2AVI - for creating a d2V project file and the authors brilliant VFAPI
Converter, which takes the d2v file and makes a smaller AVI, allowing any
program that can read AVI can now read VOB.
Tmpeg mpeg encoder - I'm still using 12c myself.
BBMpeg to remux the film with scanoffsets and add timestamps.
Virtualdub can help get rid of interlace lines
Flaskmpeg - I use 5.94 VANILLA. This can be used as an alternative to dvd2avi. It's slower, but sometimes achieves better results.
Most of the above are Free, if not all. Don't ask where to get them, ask at www.vcdhelp.com or do a search at www.google.com

This guide is for use with NTSC 29fps dvds. It can be used for region 2, but video settings must be altered.
First put the dvd into your drive and load cladmec. Rip the disc to your harddrive.
