Load the LAST vob into dvd2avi - we're going to do a one
minute test. We don't want the start of the film because this tends to contain a fade from black with little motion that produces an exceptionally small file. So we'll start mid film.

Okay, with the vob loaded select Video and force film as below.
This trick, sadly, cannot be done with a 25fps dvd.

Next, open the stats window

Notice the frame rate is 23.976fps.

Use the slider at the bottom of the main window to scroll about one minute from the starting timestamp.

In this example, we start at 1:26:51, so I dragged to 1:28:00.

Use the MARK out
] to select the end of the test piece, and under the FILE pull-down select save project.

OH yeah. Before I forget, use the clipping options so that the picture fills the frame.

Right, your film.d2v project file is saved load the VFAPI converter.

This step isn't necessary as tmpeg has a d2v filter. HOWEVER, you may wish to use virtualdub to do your resizing, and some films have interlacing lines - virtualdub has the option to throw away the second field, or repeat the first. The problem is virtualdub won't read d2v, but it does read AVI :-) Conversion takes less than a min
